But there’s one other reason why I feel the necessity to talk out now, earlier than my departure, a deep concern that an unhealthy pattern has begun to take hold in recent times amongst some sectors of Black and Latinx progressives, particularly among intellectuals and academics, a pattern that must be challenged instantly by a principled but respectful debate, one that attracts important lessons from the Latino community’s long and heroic history of grassroots struggles.
